Guest Post: Why we write erotic romance by Adriana Kraft

Short answer: Because we like it.

My husband and I are part of the baby boomer generation – you know, the generation that brought us sex, drugs, and rock and roll (well, not the drugs, for us). You can bet the generation that was at the forefront of the sexual revolution isn’t going to let go of being sexual as we age, if we can help it.

It turns out if you don’t want to lose it as things start to change in midlife, you have to work at it. And we did. Our first foray into this territory was watching adult videos to help get the juices flowing as part of foreplay. We found lots of flicks we liked, and we started to identify what worked for us and what didn’t. We like films that have some semblance of story, enough to build sexual tension and desire, and not just money shot after money shot.

Both of us were already writers in our day jobs and had done some writing together, so we started coming up with ideas and writing down scenarios we’d love to watch. And yes, we’d often read them out loud in the bedroom. Or wherever.

I’m sure we dreamed they’d get picked up for screenplays, but that hasn’t happened yet. We’d also both fostered dreams of writing fiction since our teenage years, so it didn’t take us long to try our hand at longer pieces, first short stories, and eventually novels.

Perhaps because we’re a couple writing together, we turn out to be niche authors. We write a lot of bisexual heroines and a few lesbian short stories, because both of us love the sensuality of scenes with two (or more) women. We’re not just writing for couples, but we do pay attention to what might work for both genders as we’re crafting stories and scenes. Most of our stories include ménage scenes, to help feed fantasies for both partners. And we still read everything out loud when we’re creating that first draft, just to make sure it works for both of us.

We also don’t stick to characters in their twenties or thirties, although we do write those, as well (yes, we can remember being those ages). Our oldest main characters so far are in their sixties, in Ripening Passion, and in our Swinging Games series, there are secondary characters in their seventies. And yes, we’ve met swingers still going strong at that age. Research, you know.

Because we’re committed to these issues, we write a weekly Stay Sexy column on our blog, where we focus on tips for keeping vibrant, healthy, excited and sexy across the life cycle. We’ve also become unpaid staff writers at, a great website with fiction, articles, and discounts on products to, as they put it, end boring sex. That’s definitely one of our mottos.

The Best Man is our first venture as indie publishers, under our new imprint, B&B Publishing. It’s also one of our rare het books, without any LGBTQ main characters. It does include ménage, but I don’t want to give too much away. I’ll just say our heroine, Kitty Paige, is partial to a certain kind of sandwich.
Here’s a taste of one of our favorite scenes, and if you like it, there’s a link to the rest of the scene after the excerpt.

“Oh, God. Have mercy.”

“Not this time, babe.” Jared easily lifted her butt and slid one end of the scarf under it. Quickly, he had her loins encased in silk and handed the ends of the scarf to her care. “I won’t be needing these for awhile. You may find a use for them.”

Her fingers curled around the scarf and he settled between her legs. He laved the silk around the edges of her pussy and then looked up with a grin. “Isn’t it amazing how silk feels when it gets wet—your juices and my tongue.”

She tugged on the silk scarf, increasing the pressure against her loins, and nodded jerkily. “Make me come, Jared.”

“Like this?” He tongued the silk covering her pussy and pushed a little inside her folds.

“Oh, yeah. That’ll do it. A little more.”

He lifted his head and shook it when he saw her distressed glower. “Not yet,” he whispered, retrieving the scarf. “Not nearly yet. You won’t come until I’m ready for you to come.”

He laughed as her gaze burned into him. He grabbed her wrist and tied one end of the scarf loosely around it. Her eyes rounded with awareness. Her lower lip trembled slightly when he tied the overlap of the knot around a bedpost. She didn’t move when he reached for her other wrist. “You know what I’m going to do?”

She nodded. “You’re going to ravish me.”

We are offering two contests in connection with our Tour:

BUY ONE – GET TWO: Purchase a copy of The Best Man any time before August 1 and email us a copy of your receipt to receive a free download of any novel on our backlist. Send email to adrianakraft99 at yahoo dot com.

SILK SCARF: The yellow scarf featured on the cover and in this scene was a peace offering Jared sent Kitty early in the book. I’ve traveled in Thailand and fell in love with the luster and sensuality of Thai Dupioni silk. I wish I’d brought back yellow, but I’ve had to settle for purchasing this batch here in the US. I’ll be doing the finish work on the fabric to give the scarf a fringe – and you have a chance to win it (U.S. delivery only)! Leave a comment here to enter. Leave more comments on any of our Tour Stops to increase your chances, or visit our blog and leave a comment on any post about The Best man for even more entries. No purchase necessary. Contest runs through July 31.
