There's a lot of excitement on the New York Times best seller lists this week. A lot of shake ups, but it should come as no surprise that The Casual Vacancy, J.K. Rowling's first adult novel made it to #1 on every single book chart. It sold 375,000 copies in 6 days and is #1 in Combined Print and E-book, Hard Cover and Ebook even though the book was much pricier than most books.
But E.L.James is still holding strong at #2 with Fifty Shades of Grey, followed by Darker and Freed, although the sales for the first Fifty Shades book has dropped drastically to only 75,00 copies, when it it's hay day it was selling over 300,000 copies a week.
What comes as a surprise is the big drop for last week's #1 book that unseated Fifty Shades of Grey from that spot. Winter of the World by Ken Follett is at #6. It had a 50% drop in sales. But the top 5 is ruled by women with Rowling, James and Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl is still going strong)
My crack author, JR Ward comes in at #10 on all lists with Rapture and former self published author, H.P. Mallory is at #15 with Something Witchy This Way Comes.
People still can't get enough of Stephanie Laurens (does she still write those 30 pages of long winded love scenes with the heroine's wrunched (or is it wrutched) nipples?). She's at #18, #20 in ebook with The Lady Risks It All.
Also former self publish serial romance erotic author, Sara Fawkes is at #28 and #26 in ebook with Anything He Wants, the Betrayal #5. She's a double hitter this week with the first book in this series, Anything He Wants, The Meeting at #35 in ebook.
Notable Self Publish Author Mention: Don't be surprised if M. Leighton gets swept up by a big 6 publisher. Down to You that was released on 9/21 is at #18 and her second time on this list. #12 on ebook. Price is $3.99 at around 300 pages.
Synopsis: "I’m not naive. I know I don’t get the happily ever after. My knight in shining armor took the highway detour around this god forsaken shit hole. I’ve made peace with that. That doesn’t mean I’m going to lay down like a doormat and let every cocky prick in the trailer park have his way with me."
Cass lives a depressing life in a small trailer park in Eddington, Ga with her mother and abusive boyfriend Jackson. She works hard to barely make ends meet. One day Tucker White, the lead singer in the band Damaged, walks into her diner. He tries to show her that there is more to life than the hand she has been dealt but being with Tucker will come at a high price.
Notable Self Published Author Mention: This is a surprise to see White Trash Beautiful by Tereasa Mummert. This book just came out on 9/20 and has very mixed reviews. It's at #25 and #22 in ebook. This is $2.99 at 142 pages. But Teresa has many other books out and one series that will no doubt hit the New York Times is her Honor Series. The third book in this series, Honor and Obey ($2.99 at 117 pages) should hit this list shortly.
Unto the USA Today list...
The top ten is a mish-mash of many different books, but most importantly, The Casual Vacancy is at #1 and the Fifty Shades trilogy is in there with the Hunger Games books.
Synopsis: The witch and her cat are happily flying through the sky on a broomstick when the wind picks up and blows away the witch's hat, then her bow, and then her wand! Luckily, three helpful animals find the missing items, and all they want in return is a ride on the broom. But is there room on the broom for so many friends? And when disaster strikes, will they be able to save the witch from a hungry dragon?
Notable Author Mention Because The Book Sounds Cute: Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson is at #73. It's a children's book that came out in 2003 and looks adorable and perfect for the Halloween season.
Surprisingly, there are no new authors that have caught my eye this week here.
Next week Sylvia Day is going to rock the charts off their axis, especially with the ebook list since Reflected in You (Crossfire #2. Isn't out in print yet). There was 75,000 pre-orders for the ebook that was released this Tuesday and already has over 5,000 review on Goodreads. I expect this book to push Fifty Shades of Grey down to #3 and perhaps (even though it's slim, it may reached the #1 spot on ebook if sales for The Casual Vacancy drops drastically).
Synopsis: It's been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.
Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.
Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect. Only, there’s a complication to their instant feelings for one another – Will, Tru’s boyfriend of two years.
Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can't refuse - travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake.
Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the worlds most notorious womanizer
Keep self published author, Samantha Towle on your radar. The Mighty Storm was released on 8/24. This has been a big seller on Amazon.
And there you have it! The best selling books of the week.
