A Series You Should Be Reading: H&W Investigations by Jess Haines

There’s so many paranormal series being published that it’s becoming very hard to tell them apart. The majority of them feature a female protagonist with some sort of awesome power who lives on the fringes of society with very little ties to the community she lives in. Her parents are dead, she has no siblings, but she does have a network of friends and associates that keep her grounded.

One series I started reading, mainly because the author made such an impression me because of her wonderful personality and humor on-line is Jess Haines. Jess cracks me up on a daily basis from her emails she sends me to her tweets on Twitter. When I first heard of Jess’s H&W Investigation books, I rolled my eyes. My thought was these books and the heroine, Shiarra Waynest with the funky first name, is probably like every other urban fantasy paranormal out there with a female protagonist who falls into danger by no fault of her own and ends up lusting for some hot sex on a stick male creature with come hither eyes and great fashion sense. I then found out that this series doesn’t have any romance in them at all (no monkey sex), at least in the first two books, although there are inklings of a possible one for Shia with the most powerful vampire alive with Alec Royce (who reminds me somewhat of Roarke from the In Death Series) and Chaz, Shia’s ex- werewolf boyfriend. When the first book, Hunted by the Others, was up for grabs for free, I decided to give it a read.

I deserve a big slap because Hunted by the Others, including Taken by the Others and Deceived by the Others really impressed me. Jess’s writing grabs you from the moment you start reading. Shia is a pip of a firecracker who's a down to earth normal woman trying to make ends meet as a private detective. Shia has no powers, other than her wits and whatever weapons she can get her hands on. Shia is refreshing even with her faults and tendency to get caught in some sticky situations. She's also the type of person I’d love to hang out with.

Hunted by the Others takes place in present day New York City where vampires and werewolves have come out of hiding after 9/11. There are some humans who are very bigoted against them, mainly from a group called the White Hats. Shia is a bit bigoted herself when it comes to the vamps and the werewolves. She’s just broken up with her boyfriend, Chaz, who kept his true werewolf nature from her, but surprised her while they were in bed together one night. Both vampires and werewolves make no excuses for what they are and they expect humans to accept them. Shia gets up close and personal with the vampires when she takes on a job in finding an ancient artifact that can control them. Shia doesn’t really want the job, but she needs the money. This is where she comes in contact with Alec Royce, one of the most publically known vampires in the US who rules over most of the tri-state area. Royce is a near perfect specimen of manhood. He’s a superstar with a great deal of money and property. Shia doesn’t really stand a chance against him because Royce is just too smart and experienced. He and Shia don’t hit it off at all and she thinks he’s going to kill her. But surprise, he does something she doesn’t see coming and forces Shia to sign a contract to bind her to him. Royce also wouldn’t mind turning her into a vampire. But all is not lost, because Shia has backup and is able to turn the tables on Royce. Now not only does Shia have to contend with a more than cranky vampire who can snap her in two, but also with Chaz, her shady ex werewolf boyfriend, who wants to get back with her.

Shia is now forced into a world filled with mages, witches and other scary individuals who want to finish her off. And since Shia is a lowly human and very vulnerable she has to turn to Royce and Chaz for protection. Hunted by the Others sets up this world and new people Shia has become involved with. She’s given an awesome magical belt that only talks to her and helps her defeat the bad guys. For a debut novel, this was a pretty solid read.

In Taken by the Others, Shia is again forced into a sticky situation. Royce wants Shia to be more involved in his business and life. She’s trying her best to keep away from Royce not only because he still scares her, but he’s over the top seductive, and if she gives in, he can use her for his own personal means. She’s also forgiven Chaz and is dating him again, although she’s very careful with him as well. She’s taking things with him day by day because Chaz wants her to be a part of his pack, which means she may have to turn werewolf. Shia is really not all for that and will hold on to her humanity until her last breath. But all these problems are pushed to the side when an old enemy of Royce’s, Max Carlyle, targets Shia for revenge against Royce. Max is another powerful vampire. Shia becomes a major food source in this book. Shia spills a lot more blood here, mainly her own, and barely comes out of it alive. But she survives and gains a little more insight on Royce. Jess also introduces the best character out of this whole series. His name is Devon and he puts both Royce and Chaz to shame. Devon is human and fighter who becomes Shia’s main protector. I adore Devon.

TEAM DEVON

Perfect excuse to post a Ryan Reynolds picture

I want Devon and Shia to hook up. Maybe because a little birdie told me Devon is based on Ryan Reynolds?

Deceived by the Others will be published on July 1st and begins as a more laid back book. Shia and Chaz, along with his pack, go away for some R&R. Shia must decide whether she’ll be fully committed to Chaz. But then drama ensues when she and Chaz are targeted by some jealous werewolves who have it out for Chaz. The pack isn’t all that welcoming where Shia is concerned and some major shocks occur in this book that will have many readers divided. Jess does something with Chaz that will have you screaming and wanting to tear him into little pieces much like Shia wants to do when she catches him red handed in his betrayal. And, it's quite a doozy. This shocking turn in the Shia and Chaz relationship takes some major balls on Jess’s part because it’s just not done. It really ramps up the action and drama and will have you anxious for the next book. Deceived by the Others starts out pretty slow and because of it I grew concerned on whether or not I'd continue on. But then Jess does that OMGWTF move I'd have never seen coming. And because of how Shia reacts and the way things are left, it’s a great cliffhanger.

I’m so glad I put my bias aside and picked up the H&W Investigation series. I adore Shia and the cast of characters she surrounds herself with. Shia’s internal monologue and worrying tend to be a bit too long at times, but she is human (haha). Jess has also created some nice hunky men with Royce, Chaz (although I want Shia to cut off his furry balls and feed them to him for the f’ed thing has done to her.) and of course Devon.

DEVON MINES!

Another perfect reason to post a Ryan Reynolds picture

I think Shia should just climb on top of Devon, ride him for all it's worth and be done with it. But Shia has too many morals. I think she needs to loosen up and have more fun. Maybe Shia can go the Anita Blake route and start her own harem of men?

I really look forward to more books from Jess and with Shia, who with book #4, titled Justice for the Others, has brought forth her Wayne Brady (ala the Chappelle show). Shia is now on a mission and is full of rage. She’s going to kick some ass and take names while she does it and I can’t wait to see it go down.

If you’re not reading the H&W Investigations series, you are really missing out. (Kensington Books)

Overall Grade: B+

Side Note: I’m not a fan of these covers at all. They don’t do this series justice in anyway.

Amazon's Best Books of 2011 So Far. But Where Are The Self-Published Books?

Amazon has picked their best books of 2011 for half the year. These are their editor's picks. Not sure if this is by the number of sales.

I have listed the Romance and Young Adult only since those are the main genres I read.

Romance: (the ones I read are highlighted)

1. Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart by Sarah MacLean
2. Breaking Point (An I-Team Novel) by Pamela Clare
3. Unveiled (HQN) by Courtney Milan
4. The Restorer (The Graveyard Queen) by Amanda Stevens
5. Harvest Moon (Virgin River) by Robyn Carr
6. How to Knit a Heart Back Home: A Cypress Hollow Yarn (Cypress Hollow Yarns) by Rachael Herron
7. Face of Danger (Guardian Angelinos) by Roxanne St. Claire
8. Eternal Kiss: Mark of the Vampire by Laura Wright
9. Loose Ends: A Steele Street Novel by Tara Janzen
10. What I Did For a Duke: Pennyroyal Green Series by Julie Anne Long

The 3 out of the 10 listed that I read are very recommended reads. I'm glad to see they're on the list.

And then the Young Adult:

1. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
2. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs *this is a YA?*
3. Where She Went by Gayle Forman
4. I Am J by Cris Beam
5. Divergent (Divergent Trilogy) by Veronica Roth
6. What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen
7. Exposed by Kimberly Marcus
8. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
9. Human.4 by Mike A. Lancaster
10. The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen

How sad that I haven't read one of these YA 's listed and 5 out of the ten I never even heard of.

Does anyone find it surprising they're are no self-published books on this list? You'd think there would be some because of Amazon's promotion of self-publishing on the Kindle. Wouldn't Amanda Hocking at least be in the YA top 10? Why isn't John Locke listed in the Mystery and Thriller list if he sold over 1 million books on the Kindle?

What do you think of these top ten picked by the editors of Amazon? Do you agree?

Just Like Heaven Book Review *Julia Quinn*

Julia Quinn is an author I can always rely on for writing comfort reads. Her latest, Just Like Heaven (Smythe-Smith Quartet #1) is one I’ve been waiting for not only because it’s the start of a new series, but about the Smythe-Smiths, the group of musically inept girls who have appear in what I like to call “cameos” over the course of Julia’s Bridgerton family series. Just Like Heaven features Honoria Smythe-Smith, who has a bit of the ennui. She comes from a loving family, especially an overprotective brother who had to leave the country unexpectedly after a scandal he was involved in. Honoria knows she must marry soon, and if she does, she’ll be released from playing an instrument in the Smythe-Smith musicals with her other unmarried female cousins. Honoria isn’t too thrilled by searching for a husband, but lately she feels so alone with only her cousins as friends, who tend to grate on her nerves, although she does love them.

The one man Honoria can count on is Marcus Holroyd. Honoria has known Marcus forever since he’s close friends with her brother Daniel. Marcus is very much a loner since his mother died when he was young and his father didn’t have much time for him. Marcus loved the times he spent with the Smythe-Smith’s and didn’t mind Honoria tagging along even though she was a pesky little girl. Marcus is known for being aloof and standoffish, but perfect for marriage. Honoria cares for Marcus, but since he treats her more as a sister, she has pushed aside her tender feelings for him because she thinks nothing can come of it. She asks Marcus to help her in finding a husband. What she doesn’t know is that Marcus has been working behind the scenes since he promised Daniel he wouldn’t let Honoria be taken advantage of by unscrupulous men. But then Honoria sets her sights on Gregory Bridgerton, who has a great reputation and is a perfect husband material.

Soon Honoria schemes to catch Gregory, but Marcus is there to stop her. And because of her somewhat selfish actions, Marcus ends up deathly ill. Guilt eats away at Honoria since she feels responsible for Marcus almost dying. She tries to help him recover in the hopes their friendship can become something more where she’ll always be there for him and one he can turn to for comfort and love.

Just Like Heaven has those trademark Julia Quinn moments her readers love, but I felt there was something important missing to make this latest by her an outstanding read. I don’t want to say Just Like Heaven was “meh”, but I found myself not as engaged as I have been with Julia’s past books. Honoria was a lovely heroine, but I was expecting more slapstick humor since she comes from the Smythe-Smith clan who has a reputation of being a bit ridiculous, especially when it comes to their lacking musical talent. Marcus is somewhat of an enigma, who for some reason is thought of as a lofty man who puts on airs, but nothing shown on the pages supports this at all. At least Marcus doesn’t brood too much or is filled with angst over her family woes. Watching him look out for Honoria and then courting her was the highlight of this book. He and Honoria do have nice chemistry as friends who become lovers.

I found myself chuckling a few times, mainly from Honoria’s introspective about herself, Marcus and life in general. I also enjoyed the way Julia wrote Honoria’s and her mother’s relationship that has become strained because of Daniel. The outcome between mother and daughter relationship was very satisfactory.

Just Like Heaven is sweet, warm and has some nice moments of humor, but unfortunately it’s the type of book that when you finish reading, you soon forget what you have read. Fans of Julia will most likely enjoy Just Like Heaven, but it’s missing a bit of that magic Julia usually inserts in her books. Just like Heaven is light reading with not more behind it. (Avon)

Final Grade: On the fence between a B or a B-.

Want to Feel Old? Guess What Came Out 25 Years Ago This Week?

Want to feel dated? Guess what movie came out 25 years ago this week?

David Bowie was 40 years old when he played that sexy beast Jareth who can rock a mullet like nobody's business and still look very manly covered in sparkles and guyliner. (along with those tights of his!)

I think I became a woman at the age of 10 because of Bowie as Jareth.

If you were in Sarah's shoes, would you stay with Jareth and be his Goblin Queen? *KB raises hand proudly*

I think this calls for The Magic Dance...

You remind me of the babe
What babe? babe with the power
What power? power of voodoo
Who do? you do
Do what? remind me of the babe

Dance magic, dance...

Two YA Reviews: Hourglass *Myra McEntire* & But I Love Him *Amanda Grace*

I had high hopes for Hourglass (Hourglass #1) by Myra McEntire. One of the reasons is the blurb made it sound much like the movie, The Sixth Sense. Unfortunately the writing failed to engage me and the set up took too long. I ended up DNFing Hourglass half way through when this supposed tale about a teenage girl who sees ghosts transforms into an out of the blue time travel. Also the setting is in the South, but I never got that feeling because of the lacking descriptions.

Emerson Cole sees ghosts. This started to happen when she was fourteen, most likely brought on by the sudden death of her parents in an accident. Emerson has taken medication to keep her from seeing the ghosts, but she stops taking the meds because they make her feel lethargic. She lives with her older brother, Thomas and his wife who renovate old buildings. But because the town of Ivy Spring has a great deal of history, ghosts are all over haunting to their delight. Thomas finds a group called the Hourglass that could possibly help Emerson with her growing problem. And that’s where she’s introduced to Michael Weaver who also has a secret ability much like Emerson has. Michael is older and dashing and seems very interested in not only helping her, but being her friend and possibly much more. As Emerson slowly unravels the mystery surrounding Michael and the Hourglass organization, she becomes a participant in an experiment that could destroy not only her own life but the very world.

Hourglass has many elements that will pull YA readers in. There’s sci-fi, supernatural, romance and a super hero comic book undertone, much like X-Men. I guess there's also a small town feel to this book, but then again I missed that aspect because it wasn’t defined enough. Emerson’s personality doesn’t necessarily have anything wrong with it, but she didn’t bring any big thrill to the story, nor did Michael who came across as too one-dimensional to me.

Myra’s writing is so-so and lacks that sparkle needed to succeed in today’s YA market. The only recommendation I can give Hourglass is it has one of the best covers this year. Sorry to say, but Hourglass is a pass. (Egmont)

Final Grade: DNF

YA Reads

But I Love Him by Amanda Grace is one big gimmick that doesn’t work because of poor writing and bad execution. Amanda tried to do something very creative with the storyline by writing it in reverse chronological order. The story begins at the end, over the course of a year for Ann and her abusive relationship with her boyfriend Conner. Ann has been beaten and bloodied and left with a broken wrist by Conner. We then go back over months and the days to the beginning of when Ann first met her unbalanced lover.

The material is meant to be dark since it deals with the psychological and emotional abuse of a young girl who has given up everything- her family, friends and future to be with an emotionally disturbed and unstable person. The reason is because Ann loves Conner to the depths of her very soul and feels she’s the only one who can get him help. At no point while I read did I get any sense of a connection between Ann and Conner.

There just wasn’t enough depth or dimension. Everything is surface reading and thrown out with disjointed explanations. Ann comes across as an unreliable narrator who tells the audience the why’s, but doesn’t really show why Conner is so important to her even as he lashes out for no reason. We are given examples why Conner acts the way he does, from his drunk of a father who also abuses his mother and Conner’s low self-esteem, but he’s as flat as the paper this book is written on.

I had such a disconnect while reading But I Love Him. One reason is because there seems to be major chunks of the story missing. This is one convulsed tale with no real justifiable reason for any of it.

But I Love Him is far from unique, and the devastation lies from it being incredibly flawed and defective. (Flux)

It's Finally Here! The 31st Annual Romance Writers of America Conference

Get ready NYC because thousands of writers and industry professionals have arrived for RWA's annual conference!

What is the RWA Conference?

Every year, writers and industry professionals come from all over the world to attend Romance Writers of America’s Annual Conference. The Annual Conference is a four-day event filled with educational workshops, career enhancement, and community involvement.

At the conference, career-focused romance writers can anticipate:

Education and information,
Networking with fellow writers,
Interaction with editors, agents, publishers, booksellers, and other romance publishing industry professionals.

This is the first year I'll be attending not only as a book blogger, but as an actual author. It's a milestone for me because my name tag will be under my author name, KT Grant. Just like the other two RWA conferences I've attended, I'll make sure to take pictures and report back all the exciting and fun times I had.

And if you happen to be in the area on Tuesday, 6/28, the "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing is open for anyone!

"More than 400 romance authors participate in this two-hour autographing event, and each year we raise thousands of dollars, which are donated to ProLiteracy Worldwide and local literacy organizations. Since 1990, RWA has donated more than $670,000 to literacy charities. The 2011 "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing will take place on Tuesday, June 28, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square, Broadway Ballroom. This event is open to the public; there is no admittance fee. Proceeds from book sales go to ProLiteracy Worldwide and their local NYC partner, ACE New York."

I'm not signing, but I will be roaming around taking pictures (and bringing Mho). After the signing ends I will be going to the Blogger Bar Bash at the The Atrium Lounge, planned by Wendy the Super Librarian. There's no end time and you'll be able to meet and hang out with a great group of bloggers, authors and one slightly pervy demon sheep.

If you happen to see a redhead with a stuffed sheep walking around, you know it's me. Come up and say hi and you'll be able to take a picture with Mho. But I warn you, Mho likes to snuggle, so you may find a sheep attached to some part of your body at one point.

It's going to be an exciting week hanging out with those who love books and writing them.

WTFckery Or Not? You Decide

Some truly disturbing WTFckery coming your way...

1. How about some WTFckery covers we can poke fun at?

What is up with this dude's torso and arms? His head is too ity bitty.

Synopsis: This fun and kooky little book sheds light on the otherwise unknown lives of these creepy little playmates. Creepy-Ass Dolls reveals the inner yearnings, desires, and lifelong goals of dolls. Remember, there's a reason they were kept in a toy box.

2. The WTFckery of the week goes to the 51 year old actor who marries the 16 year old. Actually, I think the 16 year old parents are disturbed to sign off permission for their daughter (who looks more like 30) to get married. A true WTF marriage. From E Online:

"Doug Hutchison, a character actor best known for roles in The Green Mile, Lost and The X-Files, married aspiring pop star Courtney Alexis Stodden on May 20 in Las Vegas.

He is 51. She is 16.

"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the couple said through their spokeswoman. "But we're very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless."

3. Bagel head craze?! OMGWTFBBQ is this? From Rant Rave:

"A new “beauty” fad in Tokyo clubs has teens injecting themselves with bags of saline, disfiguring their heads! They call themselves “Bagel Heads” or “bagelheads. Fortunately, the saline injections aren’t permanent. The weird shapes only last for about 24 hours. The bagelhead bumps can even be shaded blue or green with food coloring and molded into any shape you like."

4. I so want a karate chop knife hand.

"The black belt lettuce knife! Give your lettuce a swift chop and show your salad who's boss in seconds!"

5. Major WTFckery here that really angers me. Why are people so f'ed up? From The Consumerist:

"Piercing kittens to give them a “goth” appearance is cruel, a panel of Pennsylvania judges has ruled.

Three judges of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania on Monday affirmed a lower court conviction for animal cruelty of a dog groomer who had offered “gothic” kittens on eBay.

The groomer, Holly Crawford of Sweet Valley, Pa., offered the kittens for $100; Judge Kate Ford Elliott wrote in a 19-page opinion that “metal protruded from the kittens’ small bodies, pierced through their ears and necks, and at least one of these kittens also had an elastic band tied around its tail, an attempt at docking, which is a procedure to stem the blood flow so that the tail eventually falls off.”

For more about "Goth" cats and this cruel act click here.

6. Next time you're grilling hot dogs, why not make them into happy little men?

Make your lunchtime more fun!

"With the Happy Hot Dog Man™, every meal is an adventure! The entire family can get in on the fun, as you transform those boring old hot dogs into exciting figures you design… and eat! With ketchup, mustard, pickles or cheese. Turn it into whatever you please, and with endless possibilities, your Happy Hot Dog Man™ will make you smile again and again! For a limited time, you'll get a set of two – one in red, one in yellow – for the super low price of $10.99 plus $6.99 shipping and handling."

7. USB scented drives anyone? I'll take a chocolate one! From the Consumerist:

* Maxell USB Flash Drives are perfect for easily storing data, music, pictures and videos.
* The Aroma keys are available in 6 different colours and scents: Apple, Strawberry, Chocolate, Lemon, Orange and Mint. Available Capacities: 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB

8. Flip Flops in the literal sense:

9. Why is the cat's head where it's hoo haa should be? From Cakewrecks:

10. Would you buy a $100,000 razor? From Book of Joe:

"You could waste $100,000 on a new BMW 7-Series. Or you could spend it on a sensible everyday household item like the Zafirro razor. The deluxe shaving implement has blades of artificial sapphire grown at a former Soviet lab in the Ukraine. The handle is made of 99.9% pure iridium, so you can drop it into hot lava and it won't melt. Bright Light Founder Hayden Hamilton plans to introduce an entry-level model that costs about the same as a compact car."

11. This reminds me of the good old days when I was obsessed with Nintendo. From Gizmodo:

For $35: This bra is made to look like the the iconic NES Controller! Hand painted using acrylic paint with a textile medium. It is permanent and washable, and it will come with care instructions. When you receive your bra, it will still have tags, so you will know that it is NEW and CLEAN!

12. Deep Fried Kool-Aid anyone? "Creator Charlie Boghosian explains that the Kool-Aid balls are "kind of like donut holes" with a batter made from flour, water and Kool-Aid. His inspiration was fairly straightforward; Boghosian loved drinking Kool-Aid when growing up so he thought, "why not fry it and see what happens."

13. And your Regretsy WTFckery is perfect for those who like horse tail fashion or long to have a horse tail. Perhaps if you're into role playing with your significant other, this will be of interest as well.

I hope you have enjoyed this week's best WTFckery...

My Author Fan Letter (Blog Crawl 2011)

First of all I must thank Kassa for pulling together this author appreciation blog crawl.

Yesterday Val at Obsidian Bookshelf posted her letters to two authors, JM Snyder and Jordan Castillo Price. Now it’s my turn.

Dear Donna Boyd,

The year was 1999. Over the past decade I had only stuck to reading historical and contemporary romance. I wasn’t interested in supernatural and paranormal fiction for the most part. Werewolves, vampires and those things that go bump in the night made me yawn. But then, I realized I needed to expand my reading horizons because I seriously read every single romance my local library had to offer. Grumbling that I couldn’t find any new romances to read and kept re-reading my favorites, I ended up in front of the new fiction section of the library. I barely went in this section because it was filled with hardcovers and always had those hoity-toity literary fiction type books. I mainly stuck with paperbacks because that’s where the good stuff was (mainly hot sex). But I was desperate.

I don’t know why I picked up The Passion. The cover wasn’t visually appealing. But then I read the blurb inside the book. The first thing that caught my eye was The Passion begins as a contemporary and then goes back in time to the Victorian era. It’s about a young girl who’s introduced to an underground world of werewolves who really control the world. The key words used were romance, spell binding and sensuous. I thought, well, maybe I’ll get lucky and this hoity-toity book will have hot sex between the heroine and a hot sexy werewolf.

Words cannot describe what reading The Passion was like for me. My heart was in my throat most of the time. Your words and incredible storytelling skills were unlike anything I ever read up to that moment. Gone with the Wind was the reason I started reading romance. The Passion is the reason I now read paranormal fiction. Before JR Ward, Christine Feehan, Nalini Singh, plus a slew of other paranormal authors, you came first. This book enabled me to open my mind to new literature and is the only book out of a very small number that left me emotionally numb after I finished reading.

I was numb because the all-consuming romance you set in such a complicated way where the heroine, Tessa LeGuerre, falls for the powerful leader of the werewolves, Alexander Devoncroix, made me sigh, as well as rage. And then you throw a whammy of a twist by introducing Alexander’s brother Denis, the villain, who takes over the story and eventually steals Tessa’s soul in a gripping way that left me flabbergasted.

Denis is one of my all-time favorite villains of romantic literature. You made a villain so seductively evil, cold and calculating, but one-hundred percent redeemable by the end. And the end. Oh. My. God. I cursed you to the high heavens over the ending of The Passion. I wanted to through the book across the room because it nearly destroyed me.

The Passion is one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. The sequel, The Promise didn’t hit me as hard as The Passion, but ties everything together so perfectly. Because of you and The Passion, I then walked into a bookstore a few weeks later. For the first time I bypassed the romance section and found myself in the horror and fantasy section. There I picked up a very different book because it was about vampires but with a heroine who reminded me a bit like Tessa. That book was Laurell K. Hamilton’s Guilty Pleasures. And then I walked into the Crime and Mystery section and found J.D. Robb’s Naked in Death.

Thank you Ms. Boyd for writing such a book that allowed me to expand my reading horizons. You opened a whole new world that introduced me to fascinating creatures and characters that I will never forget, and with some awesome hot sex to seal the deal.

Yours,

Kate/KB

Your Haha Kitty Moments of Zen

Slowly slinking toward the weekend... (I first saw this at Kmont's blog and couldn't stop laughing)

Funny Pictures - Cat Gifs

And this video is making the rounds. I'm not sure if audio has been tinkered with, but then again my cat sounds like a sheep when she wants to be fed or played with.

What do you think? Can a cat actually bark?
