Howdy, folks! My name is Jess Haines, and I’m the author of the urban fantasy, HUNTED BY THE OTHERS and the rest of the H&W Investigations Series. I’d like to thank KB for having me here as a guest poster. Now, she’s read my second book, TAKEN BY THE OTHERS, and took a real shine to one of the characters. In honor of her crush on Devon, I present a short story…
Kate hitched up her purse and sauntered toward her car, flipping her long, red hair over her shoulder. She was feeling a good buzz after the drinks she’d had with dinner, and was ready to flag down a cab and go home.
Strong hands grabbed her and yanked her into the shadows of an alley as she passed, clapping over her mouth to cut off a scream.
From somewhere in the distance came a curse. “Fuck, another one?!”
She scratched and clawed at the eyes of the guy who’d grabbed her. Fangs glinted in the dim light from the street as her attacker turned her around and shoved her up against the wall, redly gleaming pupils glaring down into her own.
“Stay quiet if you value your life,” he hissed, ignoring her shoving and kicking in favor of facing the… shirtless? Yes, shirtless man at the mouth of the alley. He had nice abs, too.
“Look, I know some of you leeches think you’ve got the right to bite whoever you please, but they’ve got laws against that now. Somehow I don’t think that pretty lady appreciates your attention.”
The vampire growled. “That’s none of your concern, boy. Get out of here!”
The guy hefted a Desert Eagle and aimed it at the vamp. “Back off, fangs. Last chance.”
With blinding speed, the vampire dashed forward. A gunshot rang out, echoing in the night. The vampire screeched in pain and knocked the man to the ground, fingers digging into his throat. Kate gasped, stepping forward, getting ready to whack the vampire on the back of the head with her purse—but the man beat her to it, bringing the gun to bear on the vamp’s temple and splattering its brains against the alley wall.
“Ugh. That’ll be a bitch to clean up.” Kate hung back, wide-eyed, as the guy shoved the body off and sat up, running his hands through his short, spiky hair. “He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“Oh. Oh, no. Thank you!”
He rose with a groan, abs rippling, and Kate couldn’t help but to admire the lean strength in his arms. “Anytime, pretty lady.”
“Kate. My name is Kate. Who are you?”
“The name’s Devon,” he said.
She reached out when he started to turn away, touching his arm. He paused, looking down at her hand where it rested against his skin, a flash of something burning deep in his hazel eyes. “You saved my life, Devon. How can I ever repay you?”
“No need for that. Just doing my—uh, hobby. I guess.”
Kate flushed. God, what a killer smile! “Your hobby? You hunt vampires shirtless often?”
It was his turn to redden. “No, no. Werewolves. Don’t ask.” She stared. “Really, don’t.”
He pulled away, breaking contact, but took hold of her hand, lifting it to his lips to brush a kiss over her knuckles. “Stay safe, Kate. The nights are full of fangy, clawed, bitey things. I’ll do my best to be there if you need me again.”
She sighed, bringing her clasped hands up to her mouth as her savior melted into the shadows and was gone.
BUT THERE’S MORE…
I think we need a little KT Grant spin on this story.
Later that night as Kate got ready to bed, she couldn’t stop thinking about her hunky savior with the rock, hard rippling abs. The way Devon had kissed her knuckles, made her tingle in areas she dare not mention in polite company. Now she had an itch that needed to be scratch! And only Devon could be the one who could douse the raging fire inside her.
Her favorite stuffed sheep, Mho, she slept with each night would be of no use in aiding her.
Grumbling under her breath, Kate slid into the cool sheets. Her body was an overheated furnace of want. Even the open window where a cool breeze came through did nothing to soothe her sensitive flesh.
Suddenly a shadow appeared outside the window. Kate sat up and gasped in fright. This was no intruder or thief, but Devon!
Without saying a word, Devon climbed through the window. Kate remained silent as he stared at her with smoldering lust in his eyes. She nearly swooned as he licked his lips in desire, trying his best to hold back the caged beast inside who wanted to ravish her.
She held out her hand and smiled. Devon smiled back, took off his clothes and climbed unto the bed where he and Kate had hot, nasty, naughty, wall banging monkey sex for hours.
And both didn’t seem to mind Mho as it watch the monkey sexxorin from his perch on his side of the bed.
