Some of my favorite movies are ones of mass destruction where all hope seems lost. I cannot even tell you how much I loved watching th movie, 2012, no matter how ridiculous it was.
There is one movie with excellent buzz making the rounds called The Divide. The Divide is a post apocalypse set in New York, which is virtually destroyed in a mysterious explosion in the first few minutes of the movie. Eight survivors take refuge in the fallout shelter of an apartment building, where they are menaced first by mysterious men in HazMat suits and eventually by each other.
Milo Ventimiglia, better known from the NBC show, "Heroes" and "The Terminator" actor Michael Biehn are among those including, Rosanna Arquette and Courtney B. Vance (you may know him from Law and Order: CI). The Divide premiered at Austin’s SXSW film fest and the reviews have been very positive.
The teaser trailer gives you a very small taste of what the movie is about:
But the 1:38 opening scene is where you really get the full shock:
This is a very brutal and intense movie about the dark side of human nature. It always seems to be that way when it comes to post-apocalyptic type movies, where all hope is lost and humanity resorts back to the survival of the fittest.
Are you a fan of the depressing or disturbing end of days movies? Are there any you who can recommend a movie like The Divide? The last one I saw was The Road, which left me close to tears, but the overall message was love, which is shown perfectly between a father and a son.
I think the Pixar movie, WALL*E is the most uplifting post apocalyptic movie ever filmed.

I'd definitely have to have some weapons because zombies always seem to come out after the apocolypse. I hope I get stuck in a library because of the opportunity to catch up on my reading.
Lets see if husband gets bumped off I would take a hugh gun amo and piles of books to read Iam a big reader so I feel like that old man in the twlight zone show who reads at work and goes in to bank vault to eat his lunch. Comes out to end of world but finds the library.Name is Mr Bemus or something like that thats me glasses and all.OH and couple stuffed toys my old cat and the little sheep I have had for 40 years.
:dashes to Netflix to see if The Divide is available:
KC: Divide is going to be released in the theaters later this year.
KB, like you I love movies like 2012. However, there's one movie that is NOT action/adventure but rather real and very disturbing that has stuck with me forever because it is probably the way things would REALLY be for most of us after a mass disaster- Testament http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086429/
It's from 1983; have you seen it?
Bev: Never heard of it. Will check it out!
Not so much with the movies but I've been reading some post-apocolyptic fiction lately. SM Stirling and Joss Ware come to mind. It makes me want to stockpile survivalist books, weapons, and K-rations.
