Guest Author Post: Marie Force Keeping it Hot—Long Distance *Book Giveaway*

Thanks for having me today to talk about my new release, Everyone Loves a Hero. I had so much fun writing Cole and Olivia’s story. Their romance was hot, hot, hot from day one, and when I was reading the galley proofs, I was surprised by how sexy the book is. Not that I didn’t know that when I was writing it, but reading it like a reader rather than a writer was a very different experience.

Managing a long-distance relationship is a major challenge for Cole and Olivia. From the very beginning, they want nothing more than to spend as much time together as they can, but work, school and other complications continue to arise. So they steal the time when they can get it and do their best to make the most of it. I thought it would be fun to share a never-before-seen excerpt:

“What do you want me to wear to Jenny’s?” Cole asked.
Olivia loved the way his soft chest hair felt against her face. “Jeans.”
He brushed his fingers through her long hair. “I can do better.”
“No need. They’re casual.”
“What if she doesn’t like me?”
“She’ll love you.”
“We need to get going.”
“I know,” she said but made no move to get up. “I wish we could stay in again tonight.”
“You don’t want to go?”
“I do.”
“But?”
“We’re running out of time.”
“Baby, this is just the beginning. We’ll have more time soon. I promise.”
“Weeks, probably.”
“Two.”
She lifted her head. “Really?”
“In two weeks I have another weekend off. Do you think you could be packed and ready to go by Friday?”
“Ready to go where?”
“That’s for me to know and you to find out. Can you do it? With work and school?”
“I can bank some extra hours at the store.”
“Friday night to Tuesday night maybe?”
“I’ll miss a class.”
“Will that kill your grade?”
“I have no idea. I’ve never missed one before.”
“Never?”
“Not one.”
“Oh, my God! I’m in love with a geek!”
She sighed. “Do you think you could say that again?”
“What?” he teased. “That you’re a geek?”
“No, the other thing.”
“That I’m in love with you?” He leaned in to kiss her. “That part?”
“Mmm.”
“You like that, do you?”
“Oh, yeah.”
“So then you’ll run away with me in two weeks?”
“Will you tell me where we’re going?”
“Nope.”
“Then I’ll have to think about it.”
Astounded, he stared at her. “You will?”
“No,” she said, laughing. “You’re so easy.”
His eyes flashed as he wrestled her under him.
“We don’t have time for this,” she reminded him, giggling nervously at the sinister look he attempted to pull off.
“You’re lucky your cousin is expecting us.”
“You don’t scare me. Now get off me so I can take a shower.”
“Make me,” he said against her lips.
She smoothed her fingers over his back in a gentle caress that turned him to putty under her hands. Then she sank her fingertips into his ribs and sent him launching off her. Taking advantage of his surprise, she flipped him onto his back and brought her lips down so they almost touched his, whispering, “Two older brothers. Don’t mess with me.”
His eyes darkened with desire. “Very impressive,” he said, reaching for her. “And very sexy.”
She dodged him and poked his ribs again. “Get up.”

I had heard about this book right before it came out and I was intrigued. But I have been burned by contemporary romance recently and was hesitant to give anyone new a try. This excerpt sealed the deal! I want to read this book!!! To win it would be awesome but I will be getting it at my fav indie bookstore if I don't!! :)

I've never been in a long distance relationship. I think it must be really hard. I assume one appreciates every moment one is together face to face in such a relationship.

I was in a long distance relationship for 2 years. He was one of my best friends in High School and we hooked up after college. Because we knew each other so well, it wasn't as much of a challenge as it could have been. We broke up eventually because we grew apart, wanted different things. I used to see him at least once a month. I'd take the train (9 hours). I loved the train!
I am really looking forward to this book. It's on my wish-list. :)

Hi, Marie! ELAH sounds wonderful and I enjoyed the excerpt. :)

Years and years ago, I was in a long-distance relationship for a year and a half. We had been dating for a year when he moved. It started out fine, but as time went on we grew apart. It just wasn't meant to be.

I was in a long distance relationship once and it was very difficult. That was before cell phones and internet so I was incredibly lonely. Marie, I love your books and would love to win your latest.

I am so glad I have never been in a long distance relationship. I'm a very passionate person and would have a hard time dealing with being so far apart.

I haven't read Everyone Loves a Hero as of yet. But wow! it looks like such a great book and I can't wait until I do.

I was so excited to read your interview and find out more about Everone Loves a Hero. I live in Wakefield, RI now but I met my husband in 1969 in Jacksonville, FL when he was stationed at NAS Cecil Field. He had already served on the Forestal and Randolph working on the flight deck.

When he got out in 1971 his family had just moved to Rhode Island so we joined them here. A year later he joined the Navy Reserves and served on helicopters and then P-3's (yes, like in The Hunt for Red October) until he retired (Yeah - no more week-ends gone every month and why were his two weeks always during the middle of winter?).

I know how difficult separations can be but also how they can bring a family closer together. I can't wait to read your book.

Welcome back to Rhode Island!

This was such a great book! I love how both Cole and Olivia, despite their reservations, were trying so hard to make it work. It made the HEA that much sweeter!

Don't enter me, I'm already the proud owner of ELaH in paperback and ebook!

Super Cool! Thanks for sharing. I've never tried a Maria Force novel before *GASP*!
But just from that excerpt, I can tell this is a book I'll enjoy reading! I'll have to rectify the obvious flaw in my reading habits immediately and get my hands on something by you soon!

I've never been in a long distance relationship, but have always wondered how they work and what it's like for the couple. There's this hot russian exchange student in my class and he has a girlfriend back home. I don't know how I could make seprate towns work, let alone seperate countries!! Can't wait to see how Cole and Olivia work it out!

Congrats on the release Ms Force!

Congrats on the new release, Marie. I've never been in a long distance relationship, but I can imagine how hard it is to be away from a loved one for long periods of time.

Aloha, Marie! Most military spouses experience a "long distance relatioship" at some point. My hubby served a two year unaccompanied assignment in Japan so the children and I returned to Florida. While he was away, my second son was born and 9/11 happened - scary time to be living on seperate continents.

I was in one long distance relationship when I was younger. I lived in Oregon and he had moved to Arizona. We dated for about a year and I even went out to visit him it was cool until I found out he was dating other girls. I ended it quickly after that!

Due to work, my husband is often travelling on business. He and I need to remember to take time just for the two of us when he is home which is difficult since we have 2 children. While we are apart, we try to share a bit about how the day is going for each of us, chatting online. It would be far too easy to lose touch somehow and drift apart.

I've heard great things about this book and am looking forward to reading it.

I've never had to deal with a long-distance relationship, but I watched two of my relatives maintain a long-distance marriage for years. It was rough going for them.

I've enjoyed reading all the long-distance relationship stories today. I sure don't miss those days now that my husband is retired from the Navy.

Jeanne, you live so close to me! My husband was also stationed on the Forrestal, which until recently was mothballed in Newport, RI. We also lived for four years in Jacksonville. Small world! I hope we can meet up some day in Rhode Island! :-)

Yay! Thank you for offering this contest - I want this book desperately.

I have been in a long-distance relationship. School kept us two states apart.. and it was awful. It started out okay, we were able to work things out for the most part, and managed for a few years, but it ended horribly. Probably one of the worst experiences of my life, actually. That said, I'm totally looking forward to reading about a situation where it worked out for the people involved!!

Are you planning any local signings? I'd loves to meet you. They just closed the local Waldenbooks here in Wakefield so I expect they closed the one in Newport on Bellevue Avenue as well. No other bookstore nearby and I hate to go to Warwick.

I got a Kindle for Christmas and wondered if your books are available as ebooks. I really prefer a "real book" so I can go back and re-read my favorite scenes and the local library doesn't have paperbacks. I always prefer to buy local and support the local and regional authors but they sure are making it harder to do!

Let's all work at bringing back our small town stores and shopping local!

Marie Force said...

Ouch, Amanda, that sounds rough! Sorry that happened to you. Hugs!

Jeanne, I am hoping to do a signing at the Middletown Barnes & Noble. If you want to contact me at marie@marieforce.com, I'll be happy to add you to my mailing list for news about signings and upcoming books.

All of my books are available for the Kindle, including two I posted on my own: True North and The Fall. They're also available for the Nook via Barnes & Noble. My first book, Line of Scrimmage, has disappeared in Kindle format, but we're working on getting it restored. Thanks for your interest!

Hi Marie - when we were first dating, I moved to New Mexico for a year while my husband (then boyfriend) was in the SF Bay Area. We mutually decided not to try to maintain the relationship while I was gone, but as soon as I got back, we picked right up where we had left off. I guess that doesn't really count as an actual long distance relationship though. Looking forward to reading the book.

Hello Marie!

I sort of am in a long-distance relationship. I have been married for 15 years and for the last few years my husband has had to travel for work. He currently spends three weeks per month in Asia, Africa or Europe. We email, Facetime and leave cards for each other. Some months are harder than others, especially when he misses holidays and special occasions because he is working. He is great at his job and he has rocketed up the food chain. I am proud of his hard work and sacrifice.

Hubby and I were in a long-distance relationship when I first started college, then in my second year I moved back to a college a little closer to home. We survived being apart on and off for 5 years and then got married, so it can be done.

I would love to win this book.
