You won't believe what book is up for sale for the Kindle on Amazon. Your head may explode like those who tweet about this on Twitter and most of the 1 star reviews being posted and growing on Amazon...
Over 100 1 star reviews and counting where no one has actually read the book from what I can see.
The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure by Phillip R Greaves *this is a self published release*
Synopsis: This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter sentences should they ever be caught.
I am throughly disgusted, and for the life of me, why would Amazon allow this book to be for sale on their site?
What do you say? Should it be taken down or is that a form of censorship?
UPDATE: Business Insider has reported on this. They posted a response Amazon has sent to those who are reporting about this book:
"Amazon hasn't yet responded to our inquiry, but a commenter reports receiving this statement from the company:
As a retailer, our goal is to provide customers with the broadest selection possible so they can find, discover, and buy any item they might be seeking. That selection includes some items which many people may find objectionable. Therefore, the items offered on our website represent a wide spectrum of opinions on a variety of topics.
Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.
Amazon.com believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable. Therefore, we'll continue to make controversial works available in the United States and everywhere else, except where they're prohibited by law. We also allow readers, authors, and publishers to express their views freely about these titles and other products we offer on our website. However, Amazon.com doesn't endorse opinions expressed by individual authors, musical artists, or filmmakers.
So, it looks like The Pedophile's Guide will remain up on Amazon. And I just threw up a little in my mouth.

That is so disgusting, I do not even have words for it
Katie,
There were 106, and someone at amazon is deleting them all. Down to 18 last time I checked.
The two 5 star reviews, however, have not yet been touched.
I am appalled.
I find this digusting and while I hope Amazon sees the good PR value in not selling this horrendus piece of @)#$*%. The issue is whether or not the book condones, PROMOTES or teaches how to be a pedophile. If it does none of those things, which I'd find hard to believe, given the synopsis, then removal is censorship. Although I don't see how this book could be anythiny BUT condoing, promoting and teaching HOW to be a pedophile! I wonder if this is some sort of a hoax in order to get attention. I'm surprised the feds aren't interested in this dude.
Well since part of the description says: "...with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter sentences should they ever be caught."
Should they ever be caught. Doing something illeagl. Sounds like condoning to me, if not instructing on ways to NOT get caught?!
And it's probably self published because no publisher would want to publish something with such huge potential legal ramifications, no?!
Taken down. I'm quite sure books that promote a criminal activity (details of how to murder someone, build bombs, defraud your company, set up a drug ring) would not be allowed. How to Rape Kids and Get Away With It. Is that the alternative title? I'm sure Amazon will act soon, at least I hope so.
I am disgusted! Do I believe that some perv has the right to write a book on the subject- sadly, yes, because I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinions (however vile and loathsome). But for Amazon to sell this- and they do have a choice not to make this illegal smut available!- is morally reprehensible! How the heck did this get on the there?
as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse I am absolutely appaled and no it isn't a form of censorship to take this down.
I have a feeling that the feds are watching very closely who is buying this book and they are using it as a tool. As I wrote that, teh thought occured to me that the FBI could have put it up there and are using it to catch pedophiles. They just did that major sting across the country where they found over 100 child prostitutes.
Yes, of course it's censorship to take it down, by the very definition of the word. No question about that.
But it's also offensive. Deeply offensive.
Trouble is, what do you do about books like "Lolita," or "The Perfumed Garden" (many of the women in that book are today legally underage)?
I don't have any answers, and I'm still thinking about it.
I am also outraged by the fact this book was ever even published. It makes me sick. As a victim of childhood rape nothing and I mean NOTHING would make me feel “safer” in that situation. Rape is Rape. Would a publisher like to publish a book about how to commit hate crimes? What if it was a stalkers guide to rape? How well would that fly? Amazon as a seller has the right to refuse to sell this book. I don’t see them advertising child porn magazines on their site. This should fall into the same area of law as that.
Teaching a pedophile it’s ok to do something as long as they “follow rules” is not ok. How Ok would the publisher be if they went to see their childs teacher/coach/mentor and saw that book on the shelf?
A publisher can choose. They choose all the time. They should have choosen not to. Period.
That has got to be one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen in my entire life.
As someone who has had a close family member suffer molestation - I am outraged that Amazon would make something like this available.
I will never buy another item from Amazon - period!
Michelle
Jesus Christ.
Worst. Thing. Ever.
How awful. I've submitted a 1 star review for this title. I can't believe they allowed it to be published!
Wait until you hear this- The guide was 101,000 in the Amazon rankings and now is close to be in the top 100 rankings as of 10pm EST tonight.
O.o
I read the authors comment that the word Pedophile actually means "to love a child" and that they are "misunderstood" Good God Almighty how were they even allowed to get the use of a printing works, i am totally sickened by this. Jim K.
"Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts"
" Therefore, we'll continue to make controversial works available in the United States and everywhere else, except where they're prohibited by law"
I'm not a lawyer- but last I checked pedophilia IS illegal- right? So wouldn't promoting/teaching/encouraging it be bordering on illegal as well? If it's not- it sure as hell should be! I'm with Heather above- I'm hoping this is a "sting" operation the FBI is using. Otherwise, I'm beyond disgusted that this is for sale.

I left this comment on The Book Smugglers post about this:
Unless tens of thousands boycott Amazon, nothing will happen. And if Amazon does take of this disgusting book, then what? Will that lead to other questionable books that a group may not like to be taken off the site as well?
I am torn because I feel this book should not be out there where the public can have easy access to get it and for anyone to read. But then again, if this book is taken down, it could lead to other books being treated the same.
There seems to be no right answer in this case.
The act is beyond horrible, but with the issue of censorship and free speech, what should happen with this book?
I'm am sickened because I wish this guide was never written or it was posted. A few people are also mentioning the book Lolita, that shows pedophilia in all its forms and is a classic. Because that's fiction, it's acceptable versus a self help type of guide on how to do it and get away with it?
Katie, thanks so much for bringing things like this that are going on in the world to our attention. I never would have imagined seeing a book such as this, and am totally speechless!
It looks like Amazon has taken the book down. When you click on the link, it brings you to a error page.
Private companies have every right to decide what they will and will not stock on their shelves. That's not a censorship decision - it's a business decision.
Consumers have every right to boycott stores that enforce policies or carry products they oppose. Again, not a censorship decision - a purchasing/business decision.
CNN had a couple of very good video clips on their site this morning.
PS - when I checked at 8:00am this morning, the page on amazon was down. Don't know if they pulled it for good this time or will put it back up again when the firestorm dies down. I hope it's gone for good.
CL: I was watching The Today show this morning and they reported on this. Want to hear something truly shocking? The man who write this book (I refuse to call him an author) says that the media is biased against pedophilia and shows it in a bad light. WTF WTF?!?
Katie, I know. Before Amazon deleted all the original comments, Phillip Greaves was online defended his book against 1 star reviews. One of his statements was, "pedophiles don't 'use' children. They share sexual pleasure with them." I have friends who have rescued children, including babies--2 years old and younger!--from pedophiles. Can any rational human being actually believe a 2 year old can CHOOSE to "share sexual pleasure" with an adult???
I don't often get online to protest things. But on the subject of child molestation, there is no backup in me. It's wrong. It's evil. There is no excuse and should be no place for it in a civilized society.
Amazon has other books about pedophilia that I would not boycott them for offering - including the book trying to explain the "boylover's mind". But the main purpose for this particular work, as stated by the author in the product description, is to establish "codes of conduct" (ie, less egregious forms of sexual abuse) so child molesters will get lighter sentences when caught for molesting children!
No, no and no. Just no. This is not a slippery slope for me. It's a line in the sand, and this book crosses that line.
CL: Greaves is a sick individual who IMO needs help. He says he's not a pedophile, but his statements show an unstable person he is. I'm also disgusted that there are organizations like NAMBLA around, which has no reason to be around, and anyone who says they have a right because of free speech, need to check themseleves. Free speech for what? To promote rape and forced relations betwen grown men and young boys?
I also think it is Amazon's responsibility to decide what books should be posted, just as agents, editors and publishers have the right to decide what books they want to buy. So, if a publisher refuses to buy a book I write, I can scream censorship?
My jaw is hurting from my mouth hanging open. I'm at a total loss for words.
UPDATE!!!!!
Just read that Amazon is seeing the error of their ways:
