Stephenie Meyer Novella: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

I wonder how long this book will be on the best selling list? Another classy "Twilight" type cover.

From Publishers Weekly:
A Stephenie Meyer novella, THE SHORT SECOND LIFE OF BREE TANNER, is set for release from Little, Brown Children's on June 5 with an announced first printing of 1.5 million copies. The $13.99 hardcover, at 192 pages, is told from the point of view of Bree, a character originally featured in Eclipse. A dollar per book from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.

The book will also be available online at breetanner.com for free from June 7 to July 5 "as a special thank you to fans." Meyer says, "I'd always considered The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner as something for the fans. They have been so supportive of all things Twilight."

Meyer notes, "When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide."

You can read more about this at USA Today.

I as so hoping Meyer would announce the release date for the sequel to The Host! I want to read that sequel like you wouldn't believe. For the life of me I can't remember who Bree is? Also paying $13.99 for a 192 page book doesn't appeal to me. But I do think it's great that it's also free to read for a month to read online and a dollar donated for each first print run book sold goes to the American Red Cross. A bit of funny with the charity chosen, if you think about the whole thing with vampires and blood sucking.

So Meyer fans, will this be placed on your to be bought list?

I will be adding Bree's story to my to read list. I suffered through The Host and can't say I'm dying to read the follow up unless I can find it at a used book store.

Yep, really REALLY want the 2nd Host, but I will be reading this one -

Bree is the girl newborn that got killed by the Volturi (SPD) - I think...I think it will be neat to get some info about the newborns and that kind thing...so while it's NOT The Host 2 - it sounds good and I love Stephanie's writing so I am excited!

Bree is the only newborn to willingly give up when the wolves and Cullens are fighting the hoard. The Volturi then come in and kill her because there are no excuses even if she didn't know about the rules because her maker kept her in the dark.

While I'll end up reading the novella, I would have preferred a release date for The Host #2 too. According to Goodreads and I don't know how correct it is, they have The Host #2 listed as coming out in 2011.

I don't even remember who Bree is, so I don't plan on buying this book. Plus I think $13.99 for a 192 page book is crazy, even if part of the money is going to charity. I'll catch it on the website for free if I decide to read it.

I don't remember who Bree is. I want her to finish Midnight Sun or whatever the hell it's called.
I do looove the cover and yes, I loved the irony of the charity. Almost makes me want to buy it. Almost

Maybe the Red Cross thing is Meyer's sense of irony showing??

Umm no. I'm still holding a grudge over Midnight Sun. I know, I should get over and move on...I'm just not ready yet. hmph. And who the hell is Bree anyway?

GRRR! Blogger just ate my comment. I didn't know who Bree was either, so thank you for those of you who filled in the gap :)

Not quite sure why a book in which the main character is murdered at the end would be a fun read...

I must be the only one who doesn't want to read Midnight Sun. Since the series is from Bella's POV, why do I want to go back in time and see Edward's?

Eh, who knows, maybe if I do read it, he won't a walking stick up the bum. All his thoughts will be of tasting Bella's sweet blood, until we get their honeymoon, then he'll be wanting to taste something else. ;)

yep, i don't know who bree is either, but i am the FARTHEST thing from a twihard. maybe i just read all the books too fast back to back i dont remember her, i certainly did a LOT of skimming. the reminder comments here don't even ring a bell with me.

HOWEVER i am firmly in the "Fan Camp" for Midnight Sun. i read it after i read Twilight and it made a lot of things make more sense and is actually the reason i even bothered to continue with the series after i hated Twilight so much.

I was hoping for a Jacob and Evil Bloodsucking Mofu Baby book. But I'll take this one, I guess. ;) I think it's awesome that it'll be free online.
