Contest: Num8ers Book Giveaway!

Synopsis:
Ever since she was child, Jem has kept a secret: Whenever she meets someone new, no matter who, as soon as she looks into their eyes, a number pops into her head. That number is a date: the date they will die. Burdened with such awful awareness, Jem avoids relationships. Until she meets Spider, another outsider, and takes a chance. The two plan a trip to the city. But while waiting to ride the Eye ferris wheel, Jem is terrified to see that all the other tourists in line flash the same number. Today's number. Today's date. Terrorists are going to attack London. Jem’s world is about to explode!

There's been a great deal of buzz about Rachel Ward's debut Young Adult novel, Num8ers. And to celebrate this release, I have 3 hardcover copies to give away!

In order to have your chance to win, leave a comment here why you would like a copy. How would you deal if you were unfortuate enough to have Jem's ability and knew the date of a person's death?

I would love to win a copy of this book because it sounds like a story that my teenage daughter and I could both read and enjoy. I love it when that happens because it gives us something new to share and discuss. And if I had Jem's abilities I am afraid I would NOT deal at all. I'd probably become a hermit!

I would like a copy of this because I like stories with a little bit of a supernatural twist and this sounds like one I would enjoy.

I think if I had this god-awful ability, I wouldn't be able to look anyone in the eye. I probably would never leave my house.

I would love to win this book because I love paranormal stories with a twist. This one is original, and I love that!

Oh geez, if I had Jem's ability, I would probably never look anyone in the eye, lol. Really, I would avoid eye contact at all cost. I don't think anyone truly wants to know when they are going to die, much less when everyone else is going to die.

Thanks for the awesome contest!

I would love to win this book because I've heard so much about it and think I would really enjoy reading it.

I don't think I would want Jem's ability, but if I did have it, I would probably really avoid eye contact with anyone.

I would like a copy because it sounds like a really thrilling read. Plus, the cover is gorgeous! If I had a mantle, I'd be tempted to display it there.

And if I had Jem's ability, I think at first I would have tried to help people avoid whatever was going to happen by telling them their date. After getting sent to psychiatrists and doped up on drugs, I would start avoiding people, never getting close because I wouldn't want to know when people I love are going to die. I'd probably get really involved in online communities, actually, where I can maintain a connection with someone without having to get that heavy information.

Another reason I want this book- I'm curious if the author tells us whether or not she can see her OWN date when she looks at herself in the mirror.

I would love to win a copy of a this book because the plot sounds rather original and not one you see often. It's true that the plot of "girl with special powers" is a common one. Yet this one seems rather different. The girl in this book can only see the day a person dies. This can lead to so many different possibilities. I'm rather curious to see what Jem will do with her abilities and how she and Spider will stop the attack or get the people out. Is she going to revel her secret, are people going to think she's nuts, or perhaps she'll sacrifice herself. So many possibilities and i would love to read it to know how it does end. ^^

I think that sort of ability could drive a person mad!

Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy of this book.

I like a story with a bit of the paranormal in it. I like seeing a character who has to overcome the unordinary, dealing with something no one else has. Coping with this ability and becoming stronger for it make for an exciting read.

I was hoping you would review this one. There have been so many conflicting opinions on it. I had a love hate relationship with this book. :) Don't enter me.

FV: I've heard many mixed opinions and hope to start reading Num8ber this weekend :)

From what I hear, it is a heavy book to get through and dark in some places.

I think this would be a very interesting book to read. I would hate to be able to look at someone and know when they were going to die because you know you would want to tell them and everyone would think you were crazy if you did. I think you would feel so helpless knowing and being able to do nothing about it.

What an amazing cover!

I'd love to see how Jem copes with her "gift"--or curse--and ultimately becomes a better person for it. Seeing humans persevere through hardships is extremely inspiring.

How would I deal with this? I would live every single day with one of my loved ones to the fullest. I'm not sure I would mention the whole thing about them dying at a certain time...that conversation might be a bit awkward.

Me: Oh hey... yeah. So you might think I'm crazy, but I see numbers!
Person: ...what?
Me: YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!!

Yeah. I don't think that conversation would go over very well.

I think I would rip my hair out if I have that ability. Not only will I know the date, I would know the exact time? Thats just creepy.

I want to read this book because I heard a lot of great things about it.

Please count me in.

Wow. I'd love a copy of this book because it sounds like something I would LOVE.

I don't think I would deal very well with the ability to know when people would do. I think it would be a terrible burden, even though it might also give one the chance to try to save some people.

OOPS -- of course, that should have read "the ability to know when people would DIE."

donnas said...

I would not like to have it at all. And if I did I would probably avoid a lot of people, unless it was someone I could give some relief to that their suffering would soon be over.

I'd like to win this book so I could gift it to my niece, whom I think would really like it!

To know when others are going to die seems to me to be a gift, or burden, I would rather keep under wraps.

I think the worst part about having this ability would be trying to decide if I should tell someone what I knew if it would make a big difference to them and how they would handle it.

I'd like to win because it sounds like a page turner> I don't think I'd deal with it well. I'd try to fix the unfix-able and probally go off screaming toward the hills.

I love books that make you think outside the box and this one seems unique.

If I had the gift it would be hard. I would just try to deal w/it as best I could especially if I saw someones number was soon. Show them kindness in their last days..or maybe ask them what they always wanted to do and encourage them to do it??

Mia J. said...

Sounds like such a good book. I would like to share this with my niece if I win it. Thanks for the chance.

this looks great. I would love to read this! I can share this with my daughter.

Wow! I love this cover and this sounds like a interesting book. I would hate to have this ability. I wouldn't know how to tell someone they're going to die. I would feel so weird and they would think I was loco! I would share this with my cousin if I win. We love these fantasy YA books!

This book sounds so fascinating! (And the cover is beautiful), but seriously, I want to read this book! Love the premise.

If I saw people's numbers, I'd probably become a hermit. Okay, not totally, but it would definitely cross my mind. A lot. I mean, how often would I want to interfere? Could I interfere? What would happen if I did? And now I just want to read the book. : )

If I had her ability, I probably would subtly want to tell people to live their lives to the fullest. I probably would scare people if I went up to the and frantically told them they were going to die in, say, a minute.

The book looks good, btw~

I think that would be a terrible burden - although frequently, as an ICU nurse, family members ask me how long I think it will be before their critically ill loved ones die. Sad. I think it does sound like a very interesting book, though!

I just saw this book advertised on B&N. It's in my pile to eventually buy. I LOVE the premise of this book. How cool is this idea?

As an aspiring writer and reader, the idea of knowing the future in this way sounds wicked cool, but if I was in Jem's shoes, I think I'd never look anyone in the eye. And I certainly wouldn't look in the mirror. LOL!

At least not the people I love. :) I'd rather be ignorant. But I can't wait to read about it. Does that make me morbid? lol

I'd like a copy of this book because it sounds pretty creepy, and I love creepy reads. If I had that power, I'd probably avoid most people and keep to myself. It wouldn't make for a good novel, but it might keep me sane.

angie said...

This book looks great! I've really wanted to read it. If I had the power to tell people's death I don't know what I would do. It would definitely be almost like a curse. I don't know if I would be able to tell people when they were going to die. The only reason I would be able to tell them is so that they could enjoy their last days.

Oh wow, I would love to win a copy of this book because I've heard great things about this book and I would love to read it for myself. The story premise and synopsis are so intriguing and unique, it feels like it's going to become a must read book. :D

I don't know if I would be able to deal having Jem's ability and being able to know a person's date of death. That's a lot more responsibility than I could deal with, I mean, it would be unbelievably painful to know when the people around you are going to die... I would though try my best to responsibly share the information if necessary and probably do my best to not interfere when I'm not supposed to. Such a difficult question...

I want to win this book because I like to give most of the latest YA a try. This one looks very interesting.

How would I deal if I had Jem's ability? Well for one I'd be completely unable to keep myself from using it. Couldn't resist using it on everyone. I'd send anonymous letters to soon-to-die people asking them to be careful or something, haha. Wait- maybe that wouldn't be a good idea, might end up being a suspect in their deaths.
