Synopsis: Bart Minnock, founder of the computer-gaming giant U-Play, enters his private playroom, and eagerly can't wait to lose himself in an imaginary world—to play the role of a sword-wielding warrior king—in his company’s latest top-secret project, Fantastical. The next morning, he is found in the same locked room, in a pool of blood, his head separated from his body. It is the most puzzling case Eve Dallas has ever faced, and it is not a game...
NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas is having as much trouble figuring out how Bart Minnock was murdered as who did the murdering. The victim's girlfriend seems sincerely grief-stricken, and his quirky-but-brilliant partners at U-Play appear equally shocked. No one seemed to have a problem with the enthusiastic, high-spirited millionaire. Of course, success can attract jealousy, and gaming, like any business, has its fierce rivalries and dirty tricks—as Eve's husband, Roarke, one of U-Play's competitors, knows well. But Minnock was not naive, and quite capable of fighting back in the real world as well as the virtual one. Eve and her team are about to enter the next level of police work, in a world where fantasy is the ultimate seduction-and the price of defeat is death...
It has been 15 years and 30 books since Nora Roberts started writing under her pseudonym of JD Robb.
Can you imagine if there wasn't an Eve Dallas or a Roarke? Seriously, what if there was no Roarke? Nope, can't conprehend that, because for me, Roarke is my ideal literary hero. Sexy accent, sexy style, sexy hair, sex on a stick in bed. Yup, Roarke is all that and more.
In celebration of Fantasy in Death, the 30th release from JD Robb, set to be released on February 23, the publicity department at G.P Putnam sent something very creative in the mail.
Not only was I sent Fantasy in Death:
Mho getting the inside scoop
But I was sent one of the most creative and inventive publicity packages I've ever received from a publisher:
Personal memo from Eve Dallas asking for help on the unsolved case from Visions in Death (released in 2005)
Mho's on the case! Here he is looking throught the evidence bag
What's your favorite In Death book?
I wonder if we'll ever find out who the candy thief is? Any ideas?

Has it really been 15 years since the first In Death book?!? Wow. Really?
I'd have to say the first two, Naked in Death and Glory in Death, are my favorite.
I have never read any of these. Sounds interesting. What a great kit that came with it, how fun.
Eva: Those are 2 of my favorites also.
Elie: Once you read Naked in Death, the first book in this series, you will be addicted and want to buy all 30 books. LOL.
It's all about Roarke for me.
No Roarke? i cannot think of it! he is my favest "normal" book boyfriend, i heart him so. Eve is a lucky bitch to be able to slide all over him lol
I loved fantasy in death, would have liked more roarke (200 pages more) but the storyline was intriguing. and omg jealous of the eve memo!
cant wait until nov for the next in death fix.
That is some pretty cool publicity packaging! I haven't read this series. So I have no clue who Eve or Roarke are, but I have heard how wonderful the series is. I have the first book on my kindle, so I'll have to see what it's all about. :)
I've only read first six...but I like them!
Roarke is might yummy.
A very nice blogger pal sent me the first two books awhile ago. I now know why Roarke is awesome. JD Robb's Death series is timeless much like Julie Garwood and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
I am DYING to know who the candy thief is.
My fave? I love Innocent in Death and Vengeance in Death the most, but I adore them all.
Me too I've never read one. But I have Naked on my shelf. I vow to get sucked in.
Mmm Roarke mmm *sigh* I don't know that I have a favorite. I can pick several favorite scenes but they are spoilers for those who haven't read them so I won't. I need to finish my re-read/re-listen soon.
Marvelous review! Probably the first two ... they cemented my lurv for this series.
How cool, we got one of those as well. Do you think each reviewer got a different clue and together we can solve the mystery? O.o.
oooooooooooooooooooooo
Ana: I know DA and SB got them, so I would assume other reviewers got them also.
You know I've always thought the candy thief was someone like Trueheart, someone you'd never suspect.
I LOVE ,LOVE , LOVE the In Death books. Can't believe it's been 15 yrs. I love Roarke and Eve, but it's the whole sense of community, the cast of characters that I love the most. You never know who your going to catch up with next. Or who you'll be introduced to. All the characters are handled so well.
I think Trueheart is the candy thief also. He just acts too innocent and under the radar.
Of course it could be Roarke, because he just happens to pop up and will be in her office when Eve doesn't expect it.
The In Death series is just about my favorite series ever! I was hooked from the very first book and am so jealous you and Mho have the next book already.
I really think Roarke or Nadine might be the candy thief. Both get in her office when she isn't there often.
ahhhh KB that is SUCH a cool publicity package! i only started reading the series a few months ago and am just up to book 6, but i know Kati D will get me caught up soon, next time i see her i'll be borrowing the next few so i'll have a better idea of my favorites soon!
How long has the candy thief been in action? Was he/she around before Trueheart was linked with Baxter? I think Baxter is too obvious, as is Feenay. Honestly, I think it's the Chief!
Favourite book. Hmmm. *thinks*
I have envy! LOL. I adore this series. My faves are the ones that have really challenged my view of the world as well as my perceptions of right and wrong. These were Origins In Death and Salvation In Death.
Well, we're not the ones with the evidence bag, KB! Who do you think the candy thief is?
(btw, have never read the books)
Everyone's homework is picking up this first book in the series, Naked in Death. Then you will want to murder me because you'll end up wanting all the rest.
I think there is an In Death reading challenge going on and started by Christine at Happily Ever After.
What a cool promo package!!!
I've only read the first five In Death books, but so far, Naked In Death is probably my favorite, although I really did love Ceremony In Death, too. I'm reading Vengeance In Death this month and am excited about it because I know quite a few readers name this 6th book as their favorite.
Thanks for the mention of the In Death Reading Challenge, Kate! Newcomers are welcome... anyone who's interested can visit the sign up post here.
Our first challenge post for January is here if you want to see what we're talking about.

Personally I think my favorite is Treachery in Death. My reason is because they spend time with Roark family. As the beginning of the series it about 2 people who never was love. Now as the series grow we see they not only overcome not being love but able to accept it. I also like what Eve did for Roark that was a touching moment that define what they mean to each other. I am not going to spoil it by saying what Eve did but it worth reading.
Also I like the comparison of Eve to the other Lt who is corrupt. Before this we understand that being a cop define Eve. The comparison between the 2 redefine what we already believe about EVE. My second favorite is Vengeance in Death because it show what Summerset mean to Roark, and what Roark mean to Eve that she willing to bend the rule to make sure she can protect what is important to Roark.
