Pride and Prejudice Has been Twilightfied

First it was Wuthering Heights:

Now it looks like Pride and Prejudice has been "Twilightfied" with their cover. From B&N:

What do you think about these classic romances with their Twilight like covers? Will teens go out of their way to read these books because they have been "Twilightfied"?
.
I'm all for any marketing that can get anyone to read classics such as these. But then I think it may get out of control.
.
What's next? Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham or The Cat in The Hat? The cat wearing his red and stripped hat holds an apple? Thing One and Thing Two will wear blood red roses in their hair, where you will be able to scratch and sniff sparkles on them?

Well, I honestly can't be bothered enough to give a rat's arse, but for convo's sake - marketing bandwagon, anyone? Eh, boring. Plus, those titles have already stood well on their own. I suppose if they are trying to engage the massive Twilight fan base all I can say is - good luck with that. Since that's the way they want to go and all.

Glad to know you give a rat's arse to comment :D I find them kind of blah also. I like the covers that look like painting.

I can kind of see why they might be doing it, but...originality anyone?

And I hope you've trademarked the word 'Twilightfied' KB :)

Yeah, the cover of P&P is kinda boring. Plus it has NOTHING to do with the plot, which is always a major annoyance with me. I do like the idea of Thing One and Thing Two having scratch-n-sniff sparklies, though.

Their scratch n sniff sparklies?? LOL!!

That would be Dr. Seuss pron me thinks.

I prefer covers with Regency costumes, etc. More fitting for Austen's books.

The Twilight craze has definitely gotten out of hand. But then I wasn't exactly blown away by the books. Bella's constant fainting annoyed me no end.

So wrong. I can't remember. Was Wuthering Heights even mentioned in the series? I don't think so.

Cara: Bella mentions he favorite book is Wuthering Heights. I can't remember if she tells Edward or she is in her bedroom looking at the book.

Uh, I have to ask myself not What Would Jesus Do, but What Would Jane Austin Do (WWJAD) if she saw these covers. I think she'd have a major shit fit, WTH leave the twilight cover art on twilight, leave the classics alone!

I've never read any of the Twilight books but I will say I'd be hard pressed not to recognize their covers. While I'm not a fan of these classic getting the Twi-treatment I get why they were. If it gets young adults interested enough to read classics then who really cares what the cover looks like. It's more about the content than how it's presented some times.

I will say, though, that I saw really great cover treatments for these books by Penguin Classics over the weekend. Illustrated beautiful artwork. :)

I think this is say. Give them the Austen covers and respect they deserve of the classics that they are.

So very wrong...leave the classics alone.

What's wrong with scratch and sniff sparkles on a book? Those scratch and sniff stickers were awesome once upon a time. Back when I was a child and didn't know any better.

I have to admit, I like the covers, but could do without the words. They are pretty and could be framed, but that's about it.

I will say that I did just go out and get Wuthering Heights for my Kindle since it keeps coming up (was it really said in Vampire Dairies or are they Twilightfying that as well?).

You have got to be kidding me?! Romeo and Juliet too! Now that is the original star-crossed lover story and it so does not need a new cover. Plus the rose is so passe. They could have used a much better image for the cover.

I like Romeo and Juliet's tag line..the original forbidden love. Cracks me up!
